Isn't Immanuel Prayer Too Emotionally focused?

Here's a fantastic teaching on that topic from The Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton, IL. In it, Pastor of Pastoral Care and Healing Val McIntyre gives a helpful response about how to appropriately incorporate emotion into our prayers. (It's also just a really beautiful sermon about intimacy with Jesus and his servant heart.)

"Intimacy with God is not just a thing, it's the WHOLE thing!"
-Margaret Webb

wai-chin matsuoka
Born and raised in Singapore, Wai-Chin came to the U.S. in 1985. A chronic health condition completely transformed her relationship with God, giving new meaning to Paul’s words, “When I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Cor. 12:9). Now she worships God with all of herself: mind, spirit, and body.

Wai-Chin is trained in spiritual direction and formational prayer, with advanced coursework in trauma and addiction. She also trains spiritual directors and leads retreats, often with a special emphasis on the physical body and prayer.

First apprenticing with Margaret Webb in 2005, Wai-Chin is her longest-standing protégé. She uses Immanuel Prayer in the context of spiritual direction as well as creating and teaching classes and supervising prayer ministers.

Join us in this online event as we explore the realities of growing in relational maturity as we see each other, through the eyes of grace.
Relational maturity growth can often be painful but is a necessary part in moving toward wholeness.
God's grace can equip us with the tenderness needed to stay in relationship as we grow.
In this event we desire to imagine together maturity growth tended by the gentle, caring hands of Immanuel, and true agape community.
